TJGraphics has been trading for nearly 20 years, we've worked on many projects, mainly in publishing but we've also designed exhibitions and made T-Shirts, so you can see we have a diverse background.

TJGraphics is a husband and wife team living and working in Brook, Kent. We have two children, a cat, a dog and a TVR!

We pride ourselves that we really care about the materials we produce. As there are only two of us we can ensure that everything we do is checked and double checked and that you, as a client, know that you won't get fobbed off, because as they say, the buck stops here.

I studied Scientific and Medical Illustration at college then along came the Mac. It all changed!

Books, Books, Books!

Began working as an illustrator and junior designer after college in a sweat shop in Kentish town, then went on to working on a freelance basis for several different publishers, Harper Collins, BBC books, Evans Brothers, Hutchinson reference, Thomas Nelson. I also spent time working in a repro house, scanning and platemaking

After a few years of freelance I moved into 12 years of DTP and pre-press management for Felicia Law Publishing  (a Penguin subsidiary) and then Marshall Editions. Looking after all the books from concept to printed copies, mixed in with a short stint as the senior designer in an advertising agency.

Pinwheel came next, where as Art Director, I project managed, and designed everything from Bath books to Pop ups, Encyclopedias to boxed kits. Paper engineering, Computers, 'phones, photocopiers, (you name it, I mended it!)

In 2005 I had the first of our 2 sons, so joined my husband, Tim, working from home under the banner of TJGraphics. Since then I have continued to work in publishing, but have also worked on many other projects, from designing Christening invitations to making house signs! It's been very different from my previous experience in books, but it's been great fun turning my hand to anything, every day is different meaning it's always fresh, and I relish the next challenge.

I always wanted to go into advertising, at the time, the mid 80s, that's where the money was. It was not to be and I found myself, after 3 years of 'the good life' at college, working above a toy shop in Kentish Town, creating black and white books for a 'colourful' Geordie. But little did I know at the time that this was to be the foundation of a career in publishing, my boss may have been difficult at times, but he was a genius, teaching me the basics of good, clean, design, for that I owe him a lot.

I was designing books, at what I now consider to be the perfect time, a transitional period between the traditional and 'new', I started out stripping, cutting and pasting text onto 'blue' boards ready to be photographed for plate making. There was a computer in the office, but it was on the office manager's desk, it was an Amstrad with a black screen that glowed with green characters, this was cutting edge!

A couple of us badgered the boss to buy an, as it was then, Apple Macintosh and get us into the 20th century, sure enough a second hand Mac II arrived, running at 16 MHz and with 2Mb of RAM this thing rocked! No multifinder, designing 2-colour books on a black and white monitor and working on floppy disks it was a challenge, but, we created our first Collins Gem within a month, the ball, had most definitely started rolling...

After several years at Diagram, I started off on my own and with a bank loan I now had £10K of Apple Mac' equipment filling a spare bedroom. This was the beginning of TJGraphics.

I have been lucky enough to work for many UK and overseas publishers, but it hasn't all been books, I've designed and built exhibitions, made signage, created race car liveries, corporate brochures, websites, designed T-shirt, and even run a race team with my wife! The list goes on, but it would be fare to say, I've tried, and enjoyed, most parts of the media.

Over the past few years I have been producing the annual Millers Antiques Guides, creating well over 1500 pages a year. It's fun but I do find myself pricing up the objects on Antiques Roadshow before the 'experts.

I live with my wife, Ali, in Kent, and have two beautiful children, Tom and Oli. Any free time I have I spend hillclimbing and sprinting my TVR Cerbera at venues all over the country, and when I'm not racing it I'm fixing it!
